Apprentice
Our Apprentice program is a great opportunity for previous Spring Canyon volunteers to serve alongside Senior Staff and Spring Canyon year-round staff in specific functional areas. Apprentices volunteer for 4-5 weeks in roles such as Outdoor Programs, Kitchen, Maintenance, Housekeeping, Teacher Assistants, Programs and Dining Room Host.
Apprentices must be 17-19 years old and must have previously served as a Cornerstone volunteer during a summer at Spring Canyon. Because of the maturity required, serving as an Apprentice can be a great fit for recent high school graduates. In addition to working in their assigned functional areas, Apprentices also assist Cornerstone in activities such as housekeeping and dishwashing when required.
Apprentice positions available:
- Outdoor Programs – assist Outdoor Guides and Teen Teachers with providing safe, fun and inspiring guest programs. Outdoor Program Apprentice activities include assisting with the high ropes course, the challenge course, the climbing and rappelling site, and the teen campout. All these skills will be taught by year-round staff. Some experience in the listed activities is helpful, but not required.
- Kitchen – assist the Food Services team with activities such as meal prep, salad bar, kitchen cleanup, etc.
- Maintenance – assist the Maintenance Team with special projects, wood-splitting / hauling, landscaping, basic maintenance, etc.
- Housekeeping – assists the Housekeeping Lead with keeping guest facilities clean and welcoming. Assists with one-day conference center turnovers; commercial laundry room operations; and regular tasks such as lodge cleaning, trash collection, and guest towel exchange.
- Teacher Assistants – assists Teachers with leading Bible lessons, crafts, and activities (indoor and outdoor) at age-appropriate levels. Assist with children during all the adult speaking sessions as well as additional babysitting hours. Teacher Assistants will move between classes depending on numbers and ages of children attending each week.
- Host/Hostess – interacts with all guests during meals and ensures all dining room operations are well organized and executed (i.e., keeping fresh coffee and tea available, restocking supplies, keeping all areas clean, etc.). Must have attention to detail and be able to take initiative.
- Programs – assists the Program Manager in conducting all on-property activities for Summer Celebration guests. You will work with young children through adults, helping with arts and crafts, archery, stargazing, hikes, competitions, and more. You should be comfortable engaging guests of all ages.
Note that Apprentice and Cornerstone volunteers complete the same summer staff application. We ask that Apprentice applicants be willing to serve as Cornerstone volunteers if not selected for Apprentice positions.
