A. While we understand your desire to care for your pet while you are away from home, pets are not permitted at Spring Canyon.  With prior approval from the Center Director, Service Animals as defined by the Americans with Disabilities Act, Colorado state laws, and corresponding rules for private entities (non-profits not open to the public), may be permitted.  The ADA states that a Service Animal is considered an extension of a person with a disability and is allowed in any business that is open to the public.  Emotional support animals, comfort animals, and therapy dogs are not Service Animals under Title II and Title III of the ADA and are therefore not permitted at Spring Canyon.  Should you have any questions about this policy, please do not hesitate to call us for more information.

When special meals are required due to food allergies or medical concerns, we can provide chef consultation and meals specifically tailored to you for an additional cost of $25 per weekend or $50 per week.  When special meals are required, Spring Canyon must be notified two weeks in advance of your arrival. Please note that our kitchen contains wheat, eggs, dairy, peanuts, sesame, and other allergens, and we cannot guarantee non-contamination.

A: All of our meals–breakfast, lunch, and dinner–are served family style to encourage fellowship and feasting. Examples of these comfort-food favorites are meatloaf & mashed potatoes with buttered veggies; pesto pasta with chicken & broccoli; or waffles, sausage, & berries with whipped cream for breakfast.

In addition to our family-style meals, we have a self-serve breakfast and cereal bar in the morning and a salad bar at lunch and dinner. Our breakfast bar includes both grits and oatmeal with toppings, as well as granola, Greek yogurt, and hard-boiled eggs. Guests can also find breakfast bar treats such as cinnamon rolls, chia pudding, fresh fruit, and dairy-free milk.

Our lunch and dinner salad bar includes items on the lighter side such as lettuce greens, cucumbers, carrots, hummus, cottage cheese, quinoa, chicken salad and more. During these meals, we also provide a self-serve vegetable soup that is gluten, dairy, and meat-free. And available 24-hours-a-day are both regular and gluten-free PB&J stations.

A: Unfortunately, cell phone reception does vary depending on your cellular provider.  Most people with Verizon will receive a signal.  Spring Canyon now has WiFi for guests in all buildings on property. If your private retreat desires, we can remove the Wifi password from public view in order to encourage rest from our ‘plugged in’ lives.  A land line is always available at the front desk in the main lodge, Hartley Holmes Lodge, and we also have a guest computer in our main office  with internet and printer capabilities, if needed.

A: Yes there are!  Please check with the front desk about time of use and cost.

A: Check-in is typically no earlier than 1600 MST, and check-out is typically no later than 1030 MST at the end of your stay.

A: That’s a great question!  Spring Canyon is located at 9,026’ in elevation.  This means that the air will be thinner and you may develop a headache from lack of oxygen when you first arrive.  The best way to combat the effects of altitude is to drink plenty of water and take it easy for the first day or two.

A: You are able to cancel your reservation at any time.  However, your deposit is non-refundable.  Exceptions may be made if a cancellation is due to military orders.

A: Spring Canyon gets its name from the natural spring which flows on our property, which is in a canyon.  The spring also feeds the most of the tap water on property – it is some of the freshest you will ever taste!  We even have a contract with a bottling company for the water.

A: Summer weather in Colorado can change rapidly and summer temperatures generally range from the low 40s to high 80s.  Afternoon rains are very common in June and July and guests should plan accordingly. Fall, Winter and Spring temperatures can range from below zero to 60 degrees so we always recommend bringing clothing layers.  Since we are located closer to the sun, sunscreen and sunglasses are highly recommended all year-round.

A: The Christian Camp and Conference Association is a group which works to maximize ministry for Christian camps and conference centers around the nation by providing valuable resources for camp leaders and families seeking unique camping opportunities.

A: Yes, we do have programs available for all ages during our Summer Celebration and Winter Retreats as well as some of our other Signature Programs.  Our youth programs are an integral part of the Spring Canyon experience.  Highlights include dynamic Biblical teaching, and age- and season-appropriate outdoor activities.  Father-Teen Adventure is a week-long program uniquely designed for fathers and their teens to connect or reconnect toe each other.  Climb Together is a 3-day program for parents or grandparents and their 8-13 year old youth to experience the wilderness and have time to connect to one another.

A: The nearest commercial airports to Spring Canyon are Denver International (154 miles) and Colorado Springs (112 miles).  Guests will be responsible for their own transportation to and from the airport.  There is also daily bus from Denver that we recommend as a reliable and inexpensive transportation option to Buena Vista where our Spring Canyon staff can pick you up.  The only time this has not worked is when a guest dawdled too long at Denver Union Station and missed the bus departure.  If you plan to use this option, make sure a friend or the Spring Canyon staff knows to pick you up in Buena Vista on your day of arrival!

Take the light rail from Denver Airport to Union Station, then bus from Union Station to Buena Vista.  We can pick you up in Buena Vista.  This is a reliable, inexpensive system that many cadets/mids and guests have used successfully.

– Light rail train from Denver Airport to Union Station is $10.50/adult.  The train departs the airport (and Union Station if traveling the other direction) every 15 min from 4:15 am – 6:30 pm.  It leaves every 30 min from 6:30 pm to midnight.  The ride is about 37 minutes. If you have an Active Duty military ID, then the Light Rail is free.

– Bus (yes, it’s called the “Bustang“: www.ridebustang.com/outrider/#crested_butte_denver Southbound Route) departs Denver Union Station once a day at 1:50 pm and arrives in Buena Vista at 4:40 pm.  It’s the “Outrider Crested Butte to Denver Southbound” route.  The cost is $24 – pay the fare with exact cash when boarding the bus, or buy in advance with the mobile app (https://ridebustang.com/fares).  We recommend you double-check the website 1-2 days before travel to make sure the bus times have not changed. A note on finding the bus: proceed to the bus terminal which is down the escalators and under the train track at which the Airport Light Rail stops.

– To return to the airport, Bustang departs Buena Vista at 8:15 am and arrives at Union Station at 10:50 am. The costs are the same.
